Different techniques have been used to discuss the existence of significant relation between the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD). Various studies present their interaction and influence on the natural disasters (i.e. drought, flood, etc.) over large parts of the globe. This study uses a Markov chain method to investigate the relation between the ENSO and IOD for the period of 62 years (1950–2011) and aggregates their influence on the occurrence of floods in Pakistan. Both data sets show similarities in the formation of transition matrices and expected number of visits from one state to another. The strong values of 2-dimensional correlation and high self-communication of the transition states confirm the existence of a possible relation between ENSO and IOD data. Moreover, significant values of dependency and stationary test endorse the applicability of the Markov chain analyses. The independent analysis shows that strong events of both data sets are co-occurred in the same flood years. During the study period maximum number of floods was observed during summer monsoon season. However, further analysis shows that after 1970, Pakistan observed the highest percentage of floods occurred per year during El Nino, Non-ENSO and positive IOD years. These observations and results demonstrate that climate variability especially ENSO and IOD should be incorporated into disaster risk analyses and policies in Pakistan. 相似文献

In recent decades, climate change has been of great concern due to its effect on water level and its impact on aquatic ecosystems. Urmia Lake, the largest inland wetland in Iran, has been shrinking. There is a great concern whether it will dry up like the Aral Sea. Therefore, a hydrodynamic model has been developed to simulate the condition of Urmia Lake. The model has been validated using the known annual data on precipitation, evaporation, run off, river discharges and water level which are available for the last 35?years. Different hydrological conditions regarding lake input and output data were tested and water depth was calculated using bathymetry to predict water-level fluctuations in the future. The results predict that the water level will decrease continuously. The lake will be dried up in about 10?years if very dry conditions continue in the region. The drought speed cannot be reduced and there is no potential to develop a water-usage program. Besides, the lake water depth decrease is more slightly, applying alternate wet and dry-period conditions. In some hydrological conditions there is a good potential to consider water development projects. The sensitivity analysis of different parameters indicates that the lake is highly sensitive to river discharges, which implies that the water development project plans will disturb the lake ecosystem if implemented up to 2021 and integrated watershed management plan for the lake can change the condition by regulating the dam output. 相似文献

This paper discusses the numerical prediction of the induced pressure and lift of the planing surfaces in a steady motion based on the potential flow solver as well as the spray drag by use of the practical method.The numerical method for computation of the induced pressure and lift is potential-based boundary element method.Special technique is identified to present upwash geometry and to determine the spray drag.Numerical results of a planing flat plate and planing craft model 4666 are presented.It is shown that the method is robust and efficient and the results agree well with the experimental measurements with various Froude humors. 相似文献

Organic geochemical study of hydrocarbon pollution of the Mediterranean coastline of Morocco (Tangier-Nador) was performed during March–April 2002. It corresponds to a preliminary work representing an initial assessment of oil contamination of Moroccan coast.Three coastal sites corresponding to Tangier, Tetouan and Nador, representing the main built-up area of this marine region, were selected for superficial sediments, water and organism sampling. Results showed high contamination levels in these three selected sites, known as the most exposed areas to urban and industrial discharges. The maximal contamination corresponding to the sum of non-aromatic (NAH) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) encountered in sediment samples was about 553 μg/g (dw). Nevertheless, even a small city agglomeration without any industrial activity showed high values reaching 370 μg/g (dw), which confirm the important hydrocarbons input coming from discharges of fishing ships and oil transporting tankers.The obtained results from this survey reflecting in part the important amounts drained via effluents toward the Moroccan Mediterranean coasts, presented to the concerned authorities drove to the realization of the project of treatment of the wastewater.They later expect to lower rates by 50%, which is still insufficient for a fragile ecosystem such as the Mediterranean and sensitive to anthropogenic effects. 相似文献

Lithological, chemical, and stable isotope data are used to characterize lacustrine tufas dating back to pre-late Miocene and later unknown times, capping different surfaces of a Tertiary carbonate (Sinn el-Kedab) plateau in Dungul region in the currently hyperarid south-western Egypt. These deposits are composed mostly of calcium carbonate, some magnesium carbonate and clastic particles plus minor amounts of organic matter. They have a wide range of (Mg/Ca)molar ratios, from 0.03 to 0.3. The bulk-tufa carbonate has characteristic isotope compositions: (δ13Cmean = −2.49 ± 0.99‰; δ18Omean = −9.43 ± 1.40‰). The δ13C values are consistent with a small input from C4 vegetation or thinner soils in the recharge area of the tufa-depositing systems. The δ18O values are typical of fresh water carbonates. Covariation between δ13C and δ18O values probably is a reflection of climatic conditions such as aridity. The tufas studied are isotopically similar to the underlying diagenetic marine chalks, marls and limestones (δ13Cmean = −2.06 ± 0.84‰; δ18Omean = −10.06 ± 1.39‰). The similarity has been attributed to common meteoric water signatures. This raises large uncertainties in using tufas (Mg/Ca)molar, δ13C and δ18O records as proxies of paleoclimatic change and suggests that intrinsic compositional differences in material sources within the plateau may mask climatic changes in the records. 相似文献

The batch removal of copper(II) ions from aqueous solution under different experimental conditions using alkali-leached silica and activated charcoal was investigated in this study. The copper(II) uptake was dependent on varying time, pH, copper concentration and temperature. Copper sorption was found fast reaching equilibrium within 1 h with better performance for alkali-leached silica than charcoal. Copper sorption was low at low pH values and increased with rise in initial pH-value until 6.7. Sorption fits well the Langmuir and Freundlich equations with higher uptake by increasing temperature. According to Langmuir equation, the maximum uptake of Cu(II) ions by alkali-leached SiO2 and charcoal was found to be 242.5 and 94.4 mmol/g at temperature 60 °C and pH 6. Thermodynamic studies confirm that the process was spontaneous and endothermic nature. Kinetic data for Cu(II) sorption was found to follow pseudo-second-order model. 相似文献

A new organic/inorganic composite based on polyacrylonitrile and stannic molybdophosphate (PAN–SMP) as an adsorbent was synthesized under various conditions. The physicochemical properties of this material were specified by elemental analysis, scanning electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetry studies. The synthesized material was found to be stable in demineralized water, in dilute acids, under gamma radiation up to the total radiated of 100 kGy doses and in high temperature up to 500 °C. Ion exchange capacity of the synthesized composite and its distribution coefficient (K d) for several metal ions were determined. The results showed that PAN–SMP has a great affinity toward some metal ions such as Tl+, Sr2+, Ba2+, UO2 2+ and La4+. Based on the determined K d values, two binary quantitative separations of metal ions (Cr6+ from Cu2+ and Pb2+ from Cu2+) have been achieved on columns of this ion exchanger. The ability of PAN–SMP to decontaminate low-level liquid waste was also investigated. 相似文献

A variety of gemstones is being mined in the Shigar valley, Skardu, Pakistan. These include beryl (goshenite and aquamarine), tourmaline (schorl), garnet (almandine–spessartine), apatite, topaz, fluorite, zoisite, clinozoisite, and axinite, mostly occurring in complex or zoned pegmatites and metamorphic rocks. These have been analyzed using electron probe micro-analyzer and X-ray diffractometer. The mineral chemistry of each gemstone is similar to its respective typical gemstone variety with homogenous chemical composition. Field and chemical characteristics suggest that beryl, tourmaline, garnet, apatite, topaz, and fluorite are occurring in zoned pegmatites which are largely formed by magmatic hydrothermal fluids in the cavities and vugs within the intermediate zone. However, zoisite, clinozoisite, and axinite may have a metamorphic and/or metasomatic origin. 相似文献

This paper presents a new family of interior solutions of Einstein–Maxwell field equations in general relativity for a static spherically symmetric distribution of a charged perfect fluid with a particular form of charge distribution. This solution gives us wide range of parameter, K, for which the solution is well behaved hence, suitable for modeling of superdense star. For this solution the gravitational mass of a star is maximized with all degree of suitability by assuming the surface density equal to normal nuclear density, ρ nm=2.5×1017 kg?m?3. By this model we obtain the mass of the Crab pulsar, M Crab, 1.36M ⊙ and radius 13.21 km, constraining the moment of inertia >?1.61×1038 kg?m2 for the conservative estimate of Crab nebula mass 2M ⊙. And M Crab=1.96M ⊙ with radius R Crab=14.38 km constraining the moment of inertia >?3.04×1038 kg?m2 for the newest estimate of Crab nebula mass, 4.6M ⊙. These results are quite well in agreement with the possible values of mass and radius of Crab pulsar. Besides this, our model yields moments of inertia for PSR J0737-3039A and PSR J0737-3039B, I A =1.4285×1038 kg?m2 and I B =1.3647×1038 kg?m2 respectively. It has been observed that under well behaved conditions this class of solutions gives us the overall maximum gravitational mass of super dense object, M G(max)=4.7487M ⊙ with radius $R_{M_{\max}}=15.24~\mathrm{km}$ , surface redshift 0.9878, charge 7.47×1020 C, and central density 4.31ρ nm. 相似文献
